Bereavement - Special Projects
The Memory Quilt is a special project offered to our
bereaved families. If you have not received a quilt square yet, you may pick
one up at our office (or call to have one mailed). The squares can be
decorated using cross-stitch, embroidery, fabric paints, transferred
photographs of the deceased, or whatever method you prefer. Your square(s)
may include your loved one's name, life dates, hobbies, a poem, or whatever
meaningful information you wish to add. The quilts are on display at the
hospice office and you are welcome to view them at any time.
Once your square is complete, we will sew it into a
large quilt with the squares of other families. The quilt will be displayed
at memorial services and other Hospice functions. We also ask that you write
a page for our memory book, which will accompany the quilt and tell us more
about your loved one. Many families include an explanation of what different
articles on their square mean (Joe was an avid golfer!). The quilt is a
lasting tribute to the memory of your loved one and making your square can
be therapeutic.
