Greg
Wood was born and raised in Arkansas City, Kansas. He attended the local schools
and graduated from Arkansas City High School. He then attended one year at
Northern Oklahoma College and then one year at Cowley County Community College,
where he graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree. He met his wife, Jennifer,
at Northern Oklahoma College and they married in 1984. Greg then attended
Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas and graduated with a Bachelors Degree
of Science in Social Work in 1995 and became a licensed social worker.
After graduating college, he became the Social Worker for Hospice of North
Central Oklahoma and served in that role for almost 2 years. In December, 1996,
Greg entered full-time ministry and became the Associate Pastor for First
Assembly of God in Topeka, Kansas. Greg became a licensed minister with the
Assemblies of God in 1997 through the Berean University and served as the
Associate Pastor for over 5 years. As the Associate Pastor, Greg was the
Minister of Music and also Minister of Senior Adults as well as serving as the
staff pastor who provided counseling. In 2000, Greg was appointed as the
Director of the Senior Adult Ministry for the Kansas District of the Assemblies
of God, traveling throughout the state of Kansas to encourage churches to
involve senior adults in ministry service.
In February, 2002, Greg became the Executive Director for Hospice of North
Central Oklahoma in Ponca City, OK and continues to lead a staff of 37
professionals and over 100 active volunteers in providing quality hospice care
to patients who are facing their end-of-life and supporting their families. Greg
will graduate from Oklahoma State University with a Master’s Degree of Science
in Health Care Administration in May, 2009.
Greg was elected President of the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Hospice &
Palliative Care Association in January, 2007 and will serve his third year as
president in 2009. He also serves as the Section Leader for the National Council
of Hospice & Palliative Professionals (NCHPP) CEO / Executive Director /
President Steering Committee, an affiliate of the National Hospice & Palliative
Care Organization (NHPCO) as well as a member of the NHPCO Regulatory Committee.
Greg also serves as an advisor to the Board of Directors for the Ponca City
Humane Society and graduated in the Leadership Ponca City class of 2006. He also
enjoys traveling, playing the piano, walking his dog AnnaBelle and working in
his yard. Greg was the recipient of the 2007 Larry Hughes Leadership Award from
the Ponca City Area Chamber of Commerce in January, 2007.
Greg has been married to Jennifer for 24 years, who is the Administrative
Assistant at the KLVV Christian Radio Station and together they have two boys,
Seth Gregory who is a student at Oklahoma State University and Caleb Andrew, who
is a student at Northern Oklahoma College.
